Firewood
Mosaic offers firewood cutting opportunities as part of a sustainable approach to forest management. Purchase a Firewood Cutting Permit to cut firewood at designated locations on weekends only for personal use, such as heating a home.
Firewood cutting locations change weekly based on the availability of wood, weather conditions, and operational schedules. This web page is updated on Thursday’s for the following weekend.
Each year, Mosaic donates the proceeds from the sale of firewood permits to a deserving community organization.

What safety equipment do I need to cut firewood?
Safety is Mosaic’s highest priority, no exceptions. When you have a permit and are cutting firewood on Mosaic forest lands, you must wear:
- Chainsaw Pants
- Sturdy Work Boots
- Eye and Ear Protection
Can I purchase a firewood cutting permit beyond the upcoming weekend?
No, Mosaic firewood cutting permits are available for the upcoming weekend only to ensure there is sufficient firewood available, and that conditions are safe for public access. Mosaic is unable to forecast these contingencies for more than a week at a time at a given location.
How long, and at what location is a firewood cutting permit good for?
Mosaic Firewood Cutting Permits are valid for the day and location selected at the time of purchase. Firewood cutting opportunities are available on weekends only.
What time are permitted locations open for firewood cutting?
Firewood cutting is open from 8am-4pm on weekends only in designated locations. A firewood cutting permit is required.
How will I know where to find the firewood cutting location I purchased a permit for?
You will receive an electronic map of the cutting location by email after you successfully purchase a permit.
What will happen if I don’t have a permit or I am cutting where I am not authorized to?
Cutting firewood in unauthorized areas, or cutting without a permit can result in fines, confiscation of the wood, and possibly other penalties and restrictions. Do not cut any standing trees.
I am trying to buy a permit on a day that isn't available. What is the problem?
During firewood cutting season, Mosaic's firewood permits go on sale starting Thursday afternoon for use the following weekend. If the day you are trying to purchase a permit for isn't available, please try another day.
If you are unsuccessful in purchasing a permit for a location posted as available, there may be a cap in place to limit permits and ensure the availability of firewood. Please try selecting another available day.
