Campground launch marks new collaboration to increase access opportunities on private forest lands
PORT ALBERNI, B.C., June 12, 2019 – Mosaic Forest Management (Mosaic) is delivering greater access to private forest lands in the Alberni Valley and surrounding region by adding a 12th public campground to its offerings.
The addition of Macktush campground to Mosaic’s network of recreational sites marks a new collaboration between Scott Fraser, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Mid Island-Pacific Rim, and Mosaic’s senior leadership, where they agreed to work together to explore ways to increase private lands access for outdoor enthusiasts.
“We welcome the opportunity to work with our local communities to collaborate on issues of common interest. We fully support community dialogue to create opportunities to expand recreational access, trail connections and campsites for safe, responsible public use. The Macktush campground is a great example of how we can work together for community benefit,” said Jeff Zweig, President & CEO of Mosaic.

I am pleased that the senior leadership at Mosaic shares these values and is actively creating opportunities for greater access for the residents of the Alberni Valley and all those who come to enjoy our region,” said Fraser.
The Macktush campground is an idyllic waterfront location with more than 80 campsites, located 40 minutes outside of Port Alberni. The upgraded campground is open for reservations and can be booked through Mosaic’s new one-stop online access portal at www.macktushcampground.ca, where a comprehensive list of access information from both TimberWest and Island Timberlands can be found.
Mosaic was formed in November 2018 by TimberWest and Island Timberlands to share facilities, align best practices and enhance forest stewardship. Greater public access to private lands was identified as a key benefit of this affiliation.
“I look forward to working with Mosaic over the weeks, months and years to come to ensure people have access to their backcountry, including provincial parks and traditionally used campsites,” added Fraser.
