Mosaic Forest Management’s Cameron Lake Wildfire Update
Mosaic Forest Management is working with the RCMP, BC Wildfire Service and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) on the wildfire affecting Highway 4, with safety as our priority.
We are working closely with MOTI to support emergency evacuation routes and alternatives to Highway 4 and taking their lead as the government authority. MOTI reviewed multiple options with Mosaic, including the Horne Lake route, and they selected the Cowichan route for public access as the safest alternative to Highway 4. They have assumed responsibility for traffic and safety on the Cowichan route.
Mosaic's private roads in the area are restricted to emergency and authorised personnel only for use by BC Wildfire, MOTI and RCMP.
Mosaic has extensive measures in place to reduce wildfire risk, and we have comprehensive plans and response procedures. We have deployed our resources to fully support BC Wildfire, the Coastal Fire Centre, MOTI and the RCMP. Due to an increased risk of wildfire and concern for public safety, access to Mosaic's private managed forest lands is restricted, and the majority of our operations are curtailed during this time.
We continue to support MOTI and take their lead on emergency evacuation routes. MOTI is discouraging unnecessary travel on the Cowichan detour route at this time.
Mosaic's highest priority is the safety of the public, frontline responders, our employees and contractors. We thank those on the frontline and for everyone's support.
