Nanaimo Search and Rescue and Mid-Island ATV Club Hold Joint Training Exercise on Mosaic’s Private Forest Lands
Nanaimo, BC — Nanaimo Search and Rescue (SAR) and the Mid-Island ATV Club (MIATVC) recently held a joint training exercise under the access agreements both organizations have with Mosaic Forest Management. The event took place near Lucid Lake, southwest of Nanaimo, an ideal location for training. Close to 30 Nanaimo SAR and MIATVC members volunteered for the exercise.
The full-day training on Mosaic’s land base focused on the safe operation, navigation, and radio communications of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in the snow. The MIATVC has a memorandum of understanding with Nanaimo SAR to provide transportation support year-round in the backcountry during large-scale searches.
“Our recent joint training exercise with MIATVC was extremely worthwhile,” said Carly Trobridge, President, Search Manager at Nanaimo Search and Rescue. “Having an established access agreement and a strong working relationship with Mosaic allowed us to take advantage of the weather conditions and strengthen our safety procedures shared with MIATVC. We appreciate and value the role Mosaic played in helping make our training day happen.”
“We’re committed to providing access opportunities to responsible partner groups like Nanaimo SAR, MIATVC and their dedicated volunteers,” said Molly Hudson, Director of Sustainability at Mosaic. “Safety is a core value at Mosaic, so supporting and facilitating efforts that keep recreationalists safe is in perfect alignment for us.”
Mosaic has access agreements with several organized groups, including Nanaimo SAR and the MIATVC. While enjoying access opportunities to Mosaic’s private forest lands, partners advocate for responsible stewardship of Mosaic’s forest lands by helping to reduce wildfire, vandalism and illegal dumping.
