New Chief Forester at Mosaic Demonstrates a Continuation of Commitment to Sustainability

I did the math. In 2013 TimberWest celebrated its 100th anniversary, and 2013 now feels like a century ago. Climate change had fallen out of the popular conversation, Indigenous reconciliation was a new conversation, and nobody had memories of the last global pandemic. The first wave of electric cars had already come and gone.

In 2023, society has learned to appreciate the essentials of how a tangibly less predictable climate feels and how Indigenous worldviews offer much wisdom for our daily lives.   

This July marks the point when Molly Hudson takes on the role of Vice President, Sustainability and Chief Forester – 10 years after I first took on the role. One of my earliest achievements was convincing Molly to join the company and assist with our stewardship programs. She rose quickly to become our Director of Sustainability and helped Mosaic continuously advance its sustainability efforts, practices, and community outreach and engagement. I appreciate all our work together in my decade as Chief Forester, and I smile looking to the next horizon.  

For me, after the true honour of being the last Chief Forester of TimberWest and the first one for Mosaic, I’m taking on a new role as the Senior Vice President, Corporate Engagement and Chief Development Officer. I’ll continue to work as closely as ever with Molly on forestry, community and environmental commitments as I focus additional resources on Indigenous partnerships, climate, government and strategic development opportunities, including Mosaic’s Couverdon real estate division.   

We have spectacular times ahead as we near the five-year mark of Mosaic’s creation. We now have fully electric pickups as part of our fleet and our electric log trucks are on order. We continue to partner with local First Nations and communities. We have the largest nature-based voluntary forest carbon project in Canada while still producing great timber needed by the world. All of this is possible because of our broad spectrum of partnerships and responsible and sustainable forest stewardship.
