Reforestation
Forest products are only a renewable resource when we renew the forest. Reforestation has been an operational mainstay on our lands for well over 50 years.
Every year, Mosaic aims to plant 10 million trees across our managed forest lands. Most of these seedlings are planted within a year of harvest, which gives them an advantage over their competition. The virtuous cycle then begins again.
We are deeply committed to research and monitoring of our tree stock. In partnership with experts in government and academia, we continually evaluate and adapt our reforestation program to improve health and resiliency in our forests in response to climate change.
Dedication and commitment to reforestation has a long history at Mosaic, with some of our predecessor organizations having charted a leadership role in reforestation practices in British Columbia and the US Pacific Northwest decades ago. Today, we are increasingly planting third rotation crops and recently even a few fourth rotation crops, which is a testament to the long-term commitment to sustainable forest management.
