Firewood Sales Support KidSport, So ALL Kids Can Play!
Nanaimo, BC — Mosaic Forest Management announced today that it will match its sales of firewood cutting permits up to a total $20,000 donation to KidSport BC, the provincial chapter of KidSport, a non-profit organization supporting youth sports.
“We’re proud to provide this donation to KidSport BC at a time when local communities are in need,” said Mosaic President and CEO Jeff Zweig. “This funding will support families across Vancouver Island and in coastal communities where we operate, by helping kids stay active and healthy through participation in sport.”
Matching funds were collected by Mosaic through the sale of firewood cutting permits during the 2019/2020 season. Firewood permits give local communities access to affordable firewood for personal use, like heating a home. Every year, hundreds of firewood permits are sold across Mosaic managed forest lands.
Thea Culley, Manager of the KidSport program at Sport BC, said “Mosaic’s generous match donation will have a significant impact in the lives of kids on Vancouver Island and in coastal communities. This support will allow youth, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, to experience the many positive benefits of sport.”
KidSport is a national organization with chapters throughout British Columbia, including in communities across Vancouver Island and on the mainland coast. The organization provides financial assistance to cover registration fees to remove financial barriers that prevent kids from playing organized sport. Since its creation by Sport BC in 1993, over 825,000 kids across Canada have been given the chance to play sport through KidSport funding.
