Management of Old Forests on Quadra Island – Forest Practices Board Update

Mosaic Forest Management (Mosaic), as timberlands manager for TimberWest, has been cooperating in a matter before the Forest Practices Board (Board) since the spring of 2023.

This week, the Board released certain findings, including that TimberWest did not comply with section 21 of the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA) regarding its forest stewardship plan (FSP) strategy for old forests on Quadra Island. More specifically in this regard, the Board cited a lack of clarity regarding plans to increase the volume of old forest.

Mosaic is committed to sustainable forest stewardship. We will be carefully considering the Board's findings and have requested further clarity from them on how their conclusions were reached and on how the applicable stewardship plan could be changed to ensure compliance.
